FAQ

  1. Do you test on animals?
Absolutely not! Neither our final products nor any of the ingredients we use are tested on animals. ALTR is Cruelty Free Certified through the Leaping Bunny programme.

  2. What is the shelf life of your soap?
Although soap gets better with age, we recommend using our soaps within 12 months of purchase. The soap will not “go bad” but certain changes will take place that you might notice. For example, since we use all natural ingredients, the colour and scent may fade over time. Essential oils are volatile substances, and as potent as they can be, they lose their strength over time when exposed to air. If you plan on storing your soap for a while, we recommend keeping it in its box. Some of our customers like to store our soap in their closet so as to gently scent their clothes! If your soap is stored in a damp or humid environment, there might be a light ‘sweat’ on your bars, but your bar will still be good to use.

  3. Are your soaps vegan?
All of our bar soaps are vegan with the exception of our Honey & Lavender bar which includes unpasteurized honey from a local beekeeper. All other products are 100% vegan.

  4. Do you have any scent free products?
Yes! We made sure to have a scent free option for those with scent sensitivities or folks who are pregnant or nursing. Our Yarrow and Calendula is our unscented bar and we have made it skin healing herbs to make it extra special to use. The smell of the soap is simply the smell of a natural soap made with herbs.

  5. Are your ingredients natural?
Our ingredients are 100% natural. While many ingredients can be categorised as natural, we place emphasis on using raw, organic and cold-process ingredients. For example, many liquid soaps are made with naturally derived surfactants (such as decyl glucoside and coco betaine from coconuts), however we make ours with organic oils and naturally saponify them to turn them into soap. By doing so, we maintain the nutrient rich and healing qualities of our plant ingredients that are wonderful for the skin.

  6. Do you use palm oil?
Absolutely not. All of our products are free from palm oil and palm oil derivatives.

  7. I have a nut allergy. Is your product safe to use?
Yes. We are careful to avoid oils that come from nuts to make our products safe to use for those with nut allergies. We do use shea butter, which is from the nut of the Karite tree. However, there are no reports of allergic reactions owing to the topical use of shea butter because it does not contain allergen binding proteins. This assures that shea butter is safe for use, even in individuals with a nut allergy.
